Gameloft has added new features to its Gameloft Live web community, including emulated demos of more than 100 of its mobile games.
The demos use a Java emulator of a handset, and are controlled by the keyboard. It shows the publisher’s intention to use its social network to more directly drive purchases of its mobile games.
Gameloft has also launched a new Flash Games section of the community, initially with one game available to play: Abracadaball.
It includes a features letting players see the best scores of their Gameloft Live friends from within the Flash game.

French company Gameloft has been going for just under 10 years now, and has developed on a fair few systems in that time; PC, Nintendo DS, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii and, more recently, the iPod Touch/iPhone OS. Given the current craze for the iPhone, the affordability of the games offered on it and the fact that I simply can’t be bothered to carry a dedicated portable games console around with me any more, I’ve decided to have a crack at falling back in love with mobile gaming again on Apple’s platform. Gameloft has kindly supplied me with the necessary titles to have a play with so let’s have a look and see if they provide bang for buck, or whether I’d be better off reading a book…

Gameloft, a French company that makes video games for mobile phones, cut its 2008 financial targets on Thursday but said it was hoping for a rebound in 2009.
Gameloft said it is targeting 2008 sales growth of more than 15 percent, down from a previous target for sales growth between 25 and 30 percent.
It also cut its 2008 operating margin target. Gameloft is targeting a 2008 operating margin of more than 3 percent — down from a previous target for a margin of between 10 to 15 percent.
In November, rival Ubisoft confirmed its 2008-2009 financial targets while posting a 7 percent rise in first-half net profit.

Gonzague de Vallois, senior vice president of publishing at Gameloft, sat down to discuss the state of mobile gaming today and how Apple has “shaken up the whole ecosystem” in this exclusive interview.

Former employees of Ubisoft and Gameloft are launching a new independent studio together in Montreal called Trapdoor Inc.
The studio hasn’t yet announced what its first title will be, but it is currently working on an original IP for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

“Apple’s iPhone may be all the rage these days, but an increasing number of mobile publishers and developers are coming out of the woodwork to support Google’s new Android platform too. Glu Mobile and Namco Networks have each announced games for Android, and now leading mobile publisher Gameloft has announced its support of the open source mobile platform as well.
Gameloft intends to develop more than 10 titles, the company said, and the first title Bubble Bash is slated for launch in Q1 2009.”

“If you needed more proof of the fierce rivalry that’s developing between EA Mobile and Gameloft, look to the former’s latest mobile game licensing deal.
EA has nabbed the UK rights for Deal or No Deal, and will release its first version of the game this November.
The existing version of the game, released by Gameloft, has been a huge seller since its release in November 2006.”
