Canadian video game sales dip for the first time since 2002

According toleading market research firm The NPD Group, Canadian first quarter retail sales of video game hardware, software and accessories dipped nearly 8.5 per cent year-over-year.  The figures represent the first-ever decline in sales since NPD first began tracking the category in 2002.

Banner year for Canadian video-game sales

Despite rising unemployment, plummeting consumer confidence and scarcer credit, the video-game industry in Canada is booming, according to market research group NPD.
Canadians spent a record $2.09 billion on video-game consoles, games and accessories, and year-over year growth was 23 per cent, NPD said in figures released Friday.

Electronic Arts cutting jobs
