What happened to the Montreal Arcadia Gaming Festival (2009)?
Twitter or subscribe to the Don’t forget to check our Job Board and list of Montreal game companies!)
Ok, here’s a quick question to the Montreal gaming community. Does Anyone know what happened to the Montreal Arcadia festival?
It was here in 2008 right? And this year, they seem to have just vanished. They even seem to have lost their domain FestivalArcadia.com (it’s now only parked ads).
In 2008 year they were having economic trouble:
Le festival Arcadia en difficulté
But it still took place at the Pepsi Forum (instead of Stade Uniprix):
Festival Arcadia Montreal Again this November (2008)
Does anyone have any information they’d like that share here?
(Thanks to Marie-Claire for reminding me to look into this.)
Update: Here’s a video of last year’s Arcadia, at the Pepsi Forum.

The same question could be asked about Adapt 2009. http://www.adaptmontreal.com/
You’re right, I haven’t heard much from them either recently. Their site is now a streaming radio station? Weird.
Chris,
I was thinking the same thing lately. I checked out the Festival Arcadia website two months ago and it expired. Looks like the event is no longer happening.
I have contacts from their PR company so I’ll send them an email to inquire.
I’m also going to write about this on NextGen Player and link to your article.

By the way, I talked to an insider in August who informed me that the organizers of Festival Arcadia went over budget and as a result couldn’t recoup their investment last year. It looks like the festival may have closed due to financial reasons.
Thanks for the info Paul!
Well , I got a question , Are they gonna do it this year or next year? Or never? PLZ ANSWER FAST!
It looks like it’s gone for good
Hopefully it will come back in a different form, or with different organizers?
Gone? Really? What a shame….
I’ve been there in 2006 with the CCJQ (Game Console Club of Quebec), We were showing up a selection of old, but good game consoles, in a back-to-the-’80s ambiance.
The Wii was shown at the festival that year. The place really rocked with animation and great gaming… It put some joy in mid-November dullness.
I heard it’s supposed to be in Pepsi center 7-8-9 november in a new form.
Greg, do you have any sources or links for that? I couldn’t find anything after a quick Google search. Thanks!
