From Montreal Girl Geek Dinners (via Twitter):

MontrealGirlGeekDinners I’m thrilled 1-up to announce that our February event will feature a talk on Interactive Storytelling via Videogames with Marie-Jo Leroux.

Details on this talk:
As an increasingly diverse audience discovers gaming, and as this audience matures, developers face the challenge of providing increasingly diverse content and deeper emotions to players.
Videogames now include most of the elements found in film – soundtrack, script, cinematography, etc. They thus offer a unique opportunity to deliver complex, engaging stories in addition to gripping interactive experiences.
The presentation will expose the various challenges posed by the medium of videogames in telling compelling stories and eliciting emotion, and the creative ways in which developers are currently rising to this exciting occasion.

About Marie-Jo:
Before Marie-Jo Leroux became a videogame producer, she gathered an eclectic set of experiences through studies in film making and pharmacology, as well as jobs teaching disaster management and sequencing owl DNA.
Since becoming a producer in 2004, she has worked on titles such as Happy Feet, Iron Man and James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game on most existing platforms including PlayStation, XBOX, Wii, PSP, DS and PC. She is currently producing an unannounced title for Ubisoft.

Many thanks to Station C for hosting this event. If you’re looking to co-work, this is the place to do it in.

Station C for 6pm, talk amongst ourselves then start the talk for about 6:30pm. We’ll have a question /discussion period and then go on our way.
