Darwin Dimensions Launches Avatara For Animated Avatar Creation

Yesterday Darwin Dimensions [from Montreal], the company behind Evolver, announced the launch of Avatara, a website allowing users to create 3D, animated avatars and share them on social networks. Unsurprisingly, there are a fair amount of "Avatar"-themed avatars already in the galleries. Avatara supports widgets for posting avatars to Facebook, MySpace, iGoogle, and many other networks, though I didn’t see anything for simply embedding an avatar directly through HTML.
Darwin’s main business is in its toolkit for creating 3D avatars for use in games and virtual worlds, so the avatars have a bit more of an uncanny valley feel to them than the toony avatars traditionally passed around on social networks like Meez or WeeMees.
