Bringing eyes in the sky into focus (Feeling Software’s Omnipresence)

The company thinks it has the solution: take the feeds from all the cameras and superimpose them on a three-dimensional mock-up of the building.

The result is a seamless, real-time bird’s-eye view of the building that can be rotated and zoomed in on, on a computer screen.

feelingsoftware The software, called Omnipresence, was launched last week and will be used by the École Polytechnique in a pilot project until early winter.

Feeling Software also will pitch it to ports, military bases, cities, and other places that use at least 50 cameras for security.

"If it’s less than that, you can handle the data," Koopferstock said.

Going into video security is a big jump for Feeling Software, which for the past four years has specialized in making 3D tools for entertainment and scientific research.

Co-founder and president Christian Laforte came out of Alias, the Toronto company that made the popular 3D animation tool Maya (now owned by Autodesk Inc.). 3D was exploding outside the visual effects world, and Laforte wanted to apply it to "solve real-world problems, beyond making pretty movies or cool video games."
