Autodesk Buys Softimage for $35 Million

Autodesk, known for its 3ds Max and Maya software used throughout the video game industry, today announced the acquisition of rival firm Softimage from Avid Technology. Autodesk is acquiring “substantially all of the assets of Avid’s Softimage business unit for approximately $35 million.”

Ubisoft, Gameloft Vets Form Independent Studio

Former employees of Ubisoft and Gameloft are launching a new independent studio together in Montreal called Trapdoor Inc.
The studio hasn’t yet announced what its first title will be, but it is currently working on an original IP for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
